Gargoyle Geckos

Rhacodactylus auriculatus

Additional Information

Gargoyle geckos (Rhacodactylus auriculatus), named for their stony appearance and gargoyle-like heads, are a staple pet in the hobby. Their Latin name “auriculatus” means “eared,” and refers to the bony, horn-like protrusions above their ears. These extraordinary geckos are often thought of as the cousin to the crested gecko, also being native to New Caledonia, and having essentially identical and simple care requirements. No special heat or lighting is required for gargoyle geckos, and they will thrive on commercially available diets.

After many generations of successful and selective breeding, gargoyle geckos now come in many beautiful colors and patterns, which alongside their sticky feet, prehensile tails, docile temperament, and ease of care, has placed Gargoyle Geckos among the most popular lizard pets available.

Our gargoyle geckos draw lineage from some of the best breeders in the country, including Tiki’s Geckos, Aritonnic, Sundown Reptiles, Rhachouse, and many more! We mostly are focusing on improving our quad-stripe and six-stripe gargoyle geckos right now, but some of our high-end geckos paired late last year are introducing some blotched influence into our breeding projects, which we hope to expand upon in the future. We currently focus on red stripe gargoyles with lighter bases, but do have some red base red stripe gargoyles, and some breeding groups who produce strong oranges for us, which we are selectively improving over multiple generations.
